Mrs. Payne’s 5th Grade
2018-2019
Welcome to 5th Grade!
What an exciting time it is for students and parents!
I am Mrs. Payne. This will be my 30th year of teaching. I Love books and reading, I love dogs, clouds, and everything to do with nature. I enjoy watching the University of Utah play football and watching NFL games. I also enjoy going to the movies. I am the mother of three grown children who you will hear about often.
I have high expectations and believe that school should be enjoyable as we learn. As we set up our class, we will consider the following:
Rules:
We will be following the school expectations of Fox Hills:
Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be Responsible. (Ask your student what these mean in each area of the school!)
Materials:
Students will each be given classroom materials such as; scissors, colored pencils, rulers, correcting pen, highlighter, etc. If a student loses or breaks any of these items, they are responsible to replace them. They should also leave these items AT SCHOOL.
Class Discipline:
I will always warn a student and help correct any behaviors. If the behavior continues, the student will have to “sign the Classroom Behavior Log”. This works as a documented warning to the student that their behavior is not acceptable. If the behavior continues, the student will be sent to our Buddy room for think time, this will result in a note home for the parent to sign. A third offense on the same day will result in the loss of a PRIDE letter. If a student loses all 5 PRIDE letters in a month, they will not be invited to the class or grade level activity. (PRIDE will be explained to your student and they will explain it to you!) Serious behaviors will be sent to the principal.
Expectations:
Students are expected to come to class fully prepared each day. That means homework completed, notes signed, textbooks, reading books, and student planner.
Assignments will be explained and time given in class to complete it. If time runs out, the student needs to finish the work at home and return it the next day.
